News from Prospect
Well, summer is
here somewhat unexpected, since we didn't have much of a spring.
As usual I am a little late with this report and hope I remember what
happened the last few months.
1.) Jack and
Esther Brown, Norm and Joan Smedes, Jean Nelson & Dolores Hall went to
Convocation. The Prospect congregation provided the morning snacks and I
heard they were a hit.
2.) Dennis and
Jan Barry arrived from Arizona for their annual hiatus in Prospect. They
are very much a part of our group when they are here. We will enjoy
their company until the end of July.
3.) Rosie Jenkins
had company from Australia. Since Rosie gets company from all over the
world, she is responsible for bringing the foreign visitors to church
and of course to coffee afterwards. So far, we've had only praise for
our hospitality and good coffee.
4.) Out Jean
Nelson decided to move back to Colorado, after her mother & husband
passed away. We miss her and wish her happiness and her new home.
5.) On the 4th of
July we had our 3rd annual potluck at the Jenkin's place. What can I
say, the weather was perfect, the food was delicious and lots of it, and
everybody in a good mood. Jessica, Maggie & Peter, the under 30 crowd
decorated with red, white and blue streamers and bows. The crowd over 30
oohed & aahed and was glad they did the decorating. (The crowd over 30
is not allowed on ladders.) After Father Brown said the Blessing, we
chowed down and enjoyed the day.

Since then our
weather went from hot to really nice, especially since the smoke from
the California fires thinned out. Prospect had it's "Blue Grass
Festival" and the "Fly-In." Right now, not much going on, so we discuss
gasoline prices, food prices, elections, senior moments and assorted
ailments.
By the way,
Esther Brown got a new dog. Munch is his name. She missed her dog Mollie
that had to be put down last year. Munch is keeping Esther on her toes,
because he is only three years old and full of it.

So this is it
again. Wish everybody could live in a place like Prospect, we are so
fortunate.
Until next time - R.J.
7-14-08 News from
Prospect .
In June, our
Organ - which was given to us by the Roman Catholic church in Shady
Cove, Our Lady of Fatima, eight years ago - suddenly stopped working.
After a lot of fiddling around and calls to two different Organ Repair
Persons in the area, the poor thing was found to be beyond financially
reasonable help, having been built sometime in the early 1960's.

Dead Organ
Not only would it cost more than
it was worth to PERHAPS fix it, it was possibly going to cost $250+ just
to get it out of the church and to it's final resting place. SO, after
considerable discussion by the Organ Committee, it was decided that the
green thing to do - and the energy efficient thing to do, since it was
REALLY heavy - was to take it apart right where it was sitting, and then
move the parts in an appropriate manner.

GOING

GOING

GONE!
All the wood pieces went into
Bob's (above in the yellow shirt) woodshop, a few specific parts went to
the fellow who brought us our replacement organ (click on Photo Gallery
above), and all the rest was taken away by local folks to sell as scrap.
THE LOST CHORD
Why shed a tear for it's demise?
It was old and lets be concise.
It was purely mechanic,
The thing was organic,
And to discard it is no vice.
But wait, let us briefly recall:
That organ was vital to all.
It was heartfelt we cared,
and its music we shared.
From grace it must not fall!
- Norm Smedes
The new Organ is a Conn, model 580, 3 manual Theater style - and its
sound fills the nave delightfully.
