December 2011

News from Prospect -

I just came home from our "Midnight Service" which we hold at 5 p.m., since nobody wants to be on the road after dark. The predicted rain storm did not show up, so you could see the stars in the sky.

Our little country church looked so warm and comfortable. A couple of our neighbors took the time ( and hard work ) to cut down a tree for the church, and the King's family of four did most of the decorating.

When everyone came in for the service the church was warm, the candles glowing and our organist ready to start playing.

For a little while there was "Peace on Earth" and "Good Will to Man!" Our last hymn was "Silent Night," I wonder how many tears were shed! No one was in a hurry to leave.

For me, I hope I remember these quiet moments during the year, when there isn't enough time for everything and the world pushes me into a corner.

Thank you Lord for 2011 with all the good and bad things.

I survived it.

Watch over us and give us strength that we may do it again in this coming year.

7-14-08    News from Prospect .

In June, our Organ - which was given to us by the Roman Catholic church in Shady Cove, Our Lady of Fatima, eight years ago - suddenly stopped working. After a lot of fiddling around and calls to two different Organ Repair Persons in the area, the poor thing was found to be beyond financially reasonable help, having been built sometime in the early 1960's.

                                                  Dead Organ

Not only would it cost more than it was worth to PERHAPS fix it, it was possibly going to cost $250+ just to get it out of the church and to it's final resting place. SO, after considerable discussion by the Organ Committee, it was decided that the green thing to do - and the energy efficient thing to do, since it was REALLY heavy - was to take it apart right where it was sitting, and then move the parts in an appropriate manner.

                             GOING

                           GONE!

All the wood pieces went into Bob's (above in the yellow shirt) woodshop, a few specific parts went to the fellow who brought us our replacement organ (click on Photo Gallery above), and all the rest was taken away by local folks to sell as scrap.

THE LOST CHORD

Why shed a tear for it's demise?
It was old and lets be concise.
It was purely mechanic,
The thing was organic,
And to discard it is no vice.

But wait, let us briefly recall:
That organ was vital to all.
It was heartfelt we cared,
and its music we shared.
From grace it must not fall!

The new Organ is a Conn, model 580, 3 manual Theater style - and its sound fills the nave delightfully.
